Desiree is a Certified Fitness Trainer as well as an AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor. Desiree’s background spans over 10 years in both film production and advertising. Until recently, she was project manager for a small agency ran by she and her husband.
Desiree has been teaching at the Dowd YMCA for over 6 years and considers this her second home. She has been told she has the gift to motivate people and make them feel good about themselves. She knows how to push people while making it fun at the same time. Realizing how much she loved fitness and the impact she had on others, she made the jump from pitching new ad concepts to helping people better their way of living through fitness.
She joined Fit Central about 2 years ago and says it’s one of the best decisions she’s ever made. It’s good to leave for the day and know that you made someone feel “recharged” or that they can do anything. This is what she lives for and she can’t imagine doing anything else. She customizes her workouts using information gathered from the clients’ initial consultation. She likes to use a mix of old- fashioned weight-training with functional and core training.
If Desiree isn’t donning her “Fit Central” t-shirt, she’s most likely teaching one of her 12 weekly classes including Total Strength, Athletic Conditioning, Cycle, and Core.
Her hobbies include spending time with her family, husband Brian; dogs, Habitt (named after a Pearl Jam song of course) and Moe; cats, Maggie and Scrappy and lots of running and working out. If you see or “hear” Desiree around the Y, say, “hello” as she loves to meet people. She jokingly refers to herself as the “Mayor of the Dowd”.

March 3, 2009 - 8:50 pmDesiree, We haven't formally met but you'd recognize my sweaty, pained face in your classes! I live in south Charlotte and if my schedule allows I always try to come up to the Dowd for a class of yours! I took a leave of absence from my job in the Fall for 3 months. I moved to Salem,Oregon to work at a winery and learned how to make wine. It was the hardest, most physically challenging thing I had ever done in my life! At 51 yrs old, I found myself as a hired hand on, virtually, a grape farm. I was the lone female on the crew. I had physically exhausting chores to do every day. If it wasn't for you and my other instructors at the Morrison Y, I wouldn't have made it! I held my own, gained the respect of the rest of my crew and had an amazing experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank-you for consistently kicking my butt! I couldn't of done it without you!

March 3, 2009 - 8:14 amDesiree - You truly inspire others to work to their full potential. You make exercising fun even when we don't feel like working out. I have never come to one of your classes and been disappointed, and you always have a great smile. Thanks for all of your hard work in putting together such great classes.
